Climate-i wins Blavatnik Prize for Innovation

Climate-i has been awarded £25k by QantX from the Blavatnik Innovation Fund to accelerate commercialisation of its technology to address F-gas emissions.

Richard Haycock, QantX CEO, said, “We are delighted to award this prize to a company who has the potential to make a significant impact on F-gas emissions. Tackling the gases that are significantly more damaging than CO2 is a necessary step in a multi- faceted battle on climate change.”

Elinor Wakefield, Climate-i CEO, said, “This prize is a very important bridge for us between inception and commercialisation. We’re starting our mission to tackle fugitive F-gases by developing technology to mitigate leaks of SF6 from electricity grids. The prize will allow us to get to the point of testing our solution with potential customers faster so we can get real world feedback on what works.”

SF6 is used in electricity networks as an insulator for high voltages but is prone to leak from equipment in substations. Climate-i is developing technology to monitor, analyse and capture SF6 leaks, allowing electricity companies to reduce their environmental footprint.
